The Qianling tomb was built in 684 AD, and it took 23 years for the work to be completed. The momentum is magnificent. Qianling is located in Liangshan mountain, 6 km north of Gan County, Xianyang City, Shaanxi Province. It was built in imitation of the Capital Changan. Liangshan is a conical limestone mountain with three peaks, of which the North peak is the highest, at 1,047.9 meters above sea level. Qianling is on the north peak. Liangshan south two peaks are lower, east-west confrontation, in the middle for sima Road, so the two peaks named Qianling "Milk Peak". According to historical records, the tomb had two walls, four gates, xiandian Que and many other magnificent buildings. The exploration shows that the inner city covers a total area of 2.4 million square meters. On the four sides of the wall were the Rosefinch Gate to the south, the Xuanwu Gate to the north, the Qinglong Gate to the east, and the White Humen to the west. Stepping on the stone steps from the Gate of Qianling Mausoleum, there are 537 steps, the height difference of which is 81.68 meters. After the steps is a wide and flat road to the "Tang Gaozong Mausoleum" monument, this road is "Sima Road". There are 1 pair of Huabei, 1 pair of winged horse and 1 pair of ostrich, 5 pairs of shima, 10 pairs of Wengzhong and 2 steles on both sides. To the east is the tablet without word, to the west is the tablet of saint. There are 61 statues of Wang Bin, one pair of stone lions, and 17 surrounding tombs. The tomb of Emperor Gaozong of the Tang Dynasty, 2 meters high, was erected for Emperor Gaozong by Bi Yuan, governor of Shaanxi Province. The original monument has been destroyed, but this one was rebuilt during the Reign of Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty. Another tombstone on the right front of the tablet is inscribed by Guo Moruo with 12 characters, "Tomb of Emperor Gaozong of tang Dynasty, Li Zhi, and The Emperor Of Heaven". In addition, outside the South gate, there are two stone carvings of the Emperor Gaozong and Empress Wu Zetian, namely The "Monument to The Saints" and "Tablet without Words", as well as 61 stone carvings of leaders of Chinese ethnic minorities and envoys of friendly countries who attended Gaozong's funeral. In Chinese history, the fixed system of the number, types and placement of stone carvings in front of tombs began from the Qianling Mausoleum and was extended to the Qing Dynasty, with similar changes throughout the ages.
